Halogen-Free Flame Retardant Solutions for Polyolefin Thin-Walled & Film Materials in New Energy & Energy Storage

The rapid development of new energy vehicles, energy storage systems, and power batteries has created a surging demand for high-performance, halogen-free flame retardant polyolefin materials, especially for thin-walled components and films. Typical applications include battery module housings, cover plates, wire harness insulation layers, heat-shrink tubes, and insulating films, with thickness ranging from 0.1 mm to 3.0 mm. These applications require UL94 V-0/VTM-0 certification, good flexibility, low smoke, dimensional stability, and processability, which pose severe challenges to conventional halogen-free flame retardants.
Traditional phosphorus-nitrogen flame retardant systems for polyolefins, such as APP-based formulations and piperazine pyrophosphate systems, can achieve flame retardant performance in standard injection-molded parts, but suffer from critical drawbacks in thin-wall and film processing. They severely reduce melt flow rate (MFR), cause poor dispersion, surface defects, unstable flame retardancy and limited compatibility with extrusion processes. These issues limit their use in film, sheet, tubing and thin-wall parts.
To overcome these pain points, Rising Star Flame Retardant has developed an advanced halogen-free phosphorus-nitrogen flame retardant masterbatch XF-M2660G, specially designed for polyolefin thin-wall and film applications. Based on optimized polymerization, surface modification and masterbatch formulation, this product delivers outstanding processability and mechanical retention. It features ultra-high decomposition temperature (stable at 220–250 °C), excellent dispersion and minimal impact on melt flow.
Test results show that XF‑M2660G maintains nearly original MFR in both PP Z30S and K8003 resins, while conventional systems lose more than 50% flowability. In extrusion sheet and film production, it delivers smooth, pit‑free surfaces, uniform thickness and high transparency. The masterbatch achieves reliable UL94 V‑0 performance and improves impact strength by up to 30%, supporting long‑run extrusion and large‑scale manufacturing.
Fully compliant with EU REACH regulations and free of SVHC concerns, XF‑M2660G provides a sustainable alternative to DBDPE and other restricted brominated systems. It is widely suitable for PP sheets, cast films, PE blown films, cable compounds and battery‑related components.
As a leading provider of halogen‑free flame retardant solutions, Rising Star Flame Retardant continues to drive innovation for polyolefin applications in new energy and energy storage. Our products combine compliance, stability and processability to support global customers in meeting stricter safety and environmental standards.
