The flame retardant methods of epoxy resin can generally be divided into filling type flame retardant and reactive type flame retardant. Filling type flame retardant usually refers to the method of adding various flame retardants that do not participate in the curing reaction to epoxy resin to obtain flame retardant properties, also known as non reactive physical mixed flame retardant method; The name reactive flame retardant refers to the introduction of flame retardant reactive groups into epoxy resin to achieve flame retardancy, also known as reactive flame retardant method.
Filling type flame retardant
The commonly used method in epoxy resin flame retardant technology is to add filling flame retardants. Compared with reactive flame retardants, it has the characteristics of simple process, low cost, wide range of raw material sources, easy operation, and more obvious flame retardant effect.
The commonly used filler type flame retardants for epoxy resins include halides, phosphides, hydrated alumina, hydrated magnesia, calcium aluminate, and ammonium polyphosphate. These flame retardants can achieve good flame retardant effects when used alone, and if pre treated or used in combination with other flame retardants, the flame retardant effect is even better. If red phosphorus is coated with silane coupling agent and then aluminum hydroxide is added to epoxy resin, the flame retardant effect will be better.
The characteristics of the epoxy resin system prepared by reactive flame retardant method are that the flame retardant elements contained in the molecular structure of the epoxy resin are not easy to migrate, not easy to seep out, with low dosage, good performance, excellent flame retardancy, good dimensional stability, thermal stability, oxidation stability, hydrolysis stability, and excellent durability. The reactive flame retardant method generally involves directly preparing epoxy resin from monomers containing flame retardant structures or adding flame retardant curing agents in combination. The typical reactive flame retardant dibromoneopentyl glycol has good applications in flame retardant epoxy resins.
